Cool stuff! Though it always annoys the living $h!7 out of me that some Amtrak employees are such nazis about filming when the policy clearly states that its allowed! I’m almost certain this would never happen on the good ol’ Downeaster. The crew is very railfan friendly. #StopRailfanHate
This is great! I’m glad I’m not the only one who like to take this trip. I’ve done it about 3 times for business travel — I go down on the Silver Meteor to get a morning arrival in Savannah, and then take the Palmetto northbound. You’re sort of correct about the value of Business Class, but it might be a little different if you’re travelling alone. In my experience, the business class class doesn’t fill up, so you have a good chance of getting two seats to yourself for the whole trip. The coach sections did look full, and I think they also have one Amfleet 1 coach in the consist, which you definitely want to avoid if you’re taking the full ride.
As to the lousy bus service in Savannah, I never even tried, I just took a cab from the station to the airport where I rented a car. But then all of my trips were on an expense account. (By the way, the Savannah airport is also way out in the middle of nowhere.)
